Hello and welcome to everybody’s favorite day of the week….well besides Friday that is…..hump day! Having all that food porn to look forward to really makes for a great mid-week pick-me-up don’t ya think?
Anyways since my first green juice last week I have been hooked! I’ve definitely been getting in an extra cup or two of veggies just by juicing. Man if you haven’t tried juicing you are seriously missing out on life. It is so energizing and just plain awesome the only warning I can give is not to go to over-zealous when adding ingredients. What I mean by that is don’t just think that everything you juice will magically taste awesome. Like, oh I don’t know, beet-carrot-fennel-ginger may SOUND awesome…..but err it’s not. Not that I would know or anything, everything I make ALWAYS comes out awesome. And that’s why I NEVER have to choke down my latest creations and suck up the fact that I just wasted time making a truly unpleasant juice and wasting expensive organic produce….oh no not I!
So yes, moral of the story: less is more. Always. I’m not saying don’t be creative, but er rather, exercise caution. Either way I’m willing to bet your successes will outnumber your failures when it comes to juicing and I encourage all of you to give this straight-shot-of-goodness-into-my-veins experience a try.
But back to some solids.
Subject to change each and every week. I eat the same thing for a week and then change it up the next. That’s just how I roll folks.
This week is Civilized Caveman’s Banana Bread which is like a God-blessed slice of heaven in my mouth. Seriously, go make it now. Alongside a fried egg in butter or coconut oil—whichever is within reach—some sea salt, and a cup of homemade kefir.
School happens. And then lunch rolls around. I always bring my lunch. Always. There is no freaking way I am paying $5 for half a cup of celery and $3 for a slice of frozen pizza. No thank you.
I pack my lunch the night before and it usually looks a little like this:
Grilled beef, spring salad mix with mushrooms and apple cider vinaigrette, and the highlight–roasted sweet potatoes. Beat that cafeteria food.
Snack time comes at around 3pm. I have to admit to being a big snacker so I’ll just highlight some basics:
Glorious roasted kabocha squash. Yes I’ll take being orange any day if I can just keep eating this treasure.
Dehydrated endurance crackers and some fruit.
Plus more juice:
This one had one orange, half a lemon, about 1/4 of a cucumber, 1/2 a carrot, a handful of baby bok choy, kale, and lettuce. Lip-smacking, cell-happy good.
This was coconut breaded haddock. I just seasoned the fish, dipped it in some whipped egg whites, pressed it into some dried, finely ground coconut and fried it in coconut oil. Served over a bed of spinach. The fish wilts the spinach and so I didn’t even have to cook it.
Crossfit happens or homework gets squeezed in at some point. Blogs get read, lunches get packed.
And then its time for the last snack of the day! Usually some fruit and a protein shake made with natural whey protein, maca, cinnamon, and coconut water.
Recycled photo but you get the idea.
And that’s my day in food porn!
Thanks for stopping by, and remember to keep it real.
